The Morgan Crest

Morgan CrestI remember my grandparents, Robert and Florence Morgan, having the family coat of arms on something at their home on Sheperd Road. I was very young and the memory is very vague. I went searching on the Internet to find out what I could and I found two versions that were "close enough." Those two versions are at the far right.

However, my cousin Rob Morgan spent a good deal of time researching and drawing up the Morgan Family Coat of Arms as he understood it. I do remember the griffon in the middle being red, and I believe what he has here is definitely more accurate than my Internet pickings.

Here is what Rob has to say about the Morgan Family Crest:

This is the Morgan Crest based on several sources that I could find for Morgan Heraldry. The small castle element above the Griffon represents cadence, or birthorder so is different from sibling to sibling. The original coat of arms were awarded to Sir Thomas (the warrior) Morgan, a real knight around the 13th century. The Griffon and Dragon are traditional Welsh characters and show up frequently. The motto, or battle cry, 'Dum Spiro Spero' translates as 'As I live, I hope.'

So, my humble thanks goes out to Rob for creating this, telling us what he knows and and letting us place it on the Allmorgan website.
