John D. Morgan, the son of Benjamin, wrote in family notes to his son in about 1901: "Grandfather Edward Morgan lived in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, had five children, Enoch, Edward, Hannah, Benjamin, and Elizabeth. He and his sons Edward Jr. and Enoch were millwrights and worked at the trade in Pennsylvania, along the Wissahacken and in New Jersey, and, I believe, in Delaware. In those days the millwrights were expected to do all the Engineering necessary to carry on their business, from which he was by circumstance compelled to acquaint himself with hydraulics. Grandmothers maiden name was, I
believe, Armitage, her people were ironworkers and they moved to the Juniata and carried on their works there for many years. My father was the forth, named Benjamin, married Lucy Hathaway. I have or did have a number of relation of other names but the links are out of the chain but among them were the Kinderdines and Rittenhouse families"
He also states that his father was a blacksmith. His statements read: "Benjamin moved to Cincinnati and worked at his trade of Blacksmith. From there, he moved back to Indiana and settled on a farm. Father married Lucy in Indiana ....first and only marriage.. he always held to the Quaker principles and notions though he joined the Baptists in Indiana. He was rather of the classic, but had philosophical ideas, understood the law of forces, nature of water, etc... rather intuitive that studied, in fact I never say him do much figuring. There were few iron workers who understood the nature of mettles as well, still he was not a neat workman or much of a workman. He had but little business tact. He was quite industrious but his work seemed to be a drudgery... I believe I never saw him in a fierce passion in my life, neither was he elated much. His reasoning facilities stayed with him as long as he lived"
According to "The History of Dearborn County" the family came to Indiana by traveling over the mountains by covered wagon to Pittsburg, then by keelboat, floating down the Ohio river to Cincinnati, where they stayed until they purchased 180 acres of land near Bright. The two older boys were married, and Benjamin married during the time in Cincinnati. There has been a story stating that when Benjamin arrived in Dearborn County, he started a Blacksmith Shop with no tools and he made his own anvil by pounding an iron wedge into a wooden rod and he used this for many years. Like his two brothers he died a sudden violent death, by falling down a stairway in the dark in a strange house. His will was written July 1868 and probated in March 1883. He mentions children Andrew, Daniel (deceased) and John D. Morgan He is buried in Gibson cemetery Bright, Indiana
Lucy was only 13 at the time she and Benjamin were married, and she was not a Quaker, which meant that he was expelled from the Quaker Monthly Meetings for marrying out of the faith. Benjamin and his young bride lived in Indiana, then lived many years in Cincinnati. Luch was vivacious girl with a quick temper and a vivid perception. She had above average business sense and was aggressive and outgoing. She had coal black hair, however in later years, her mind failed and she spent her
last years in an asylum. Considering that Lucy was only 13 when she married and that they had at least 13 children (some records indicate more), and several of them died in childhood, she must have had a difficult life. All of the information on the children of Lucy and Benjamin came from census records and from an internet family tree, therefore I cannot guarentee the authenticity of some of it, but feel that is is accurate and based on known family history. Per Marilyn Jenkins.
According to the 1870 census, Harrison Twp., Benjamin 83 born in PA, Lucinda 63 born in Maine, Edwin 8 born in KY, Ellen 6 born in Massachusets. Who are Edwin and Ellen?
On the 1875 Harrison map, Francis Swales property is right above the Est. of Benjamin Morgan.
Looking at the 1860 map, Danial Cloud lived right below Benjamin Morgan. Neoma Hathaway (Lucy's sister and daughter of
Elkanah Hathaway and Betsey D Canady) married Daniel Cloud.
By 1875, W.S. Markland owned Daniel Clouds property.

Finding His World ;The Story of Arthur E Morgan written by Lucy Griscom Morgan
May 19 (1908)"Reached Cincinnati at eight five A.m. Went to Harrison. Found Mother's brother and had a pleasant visit with him. Took dinner there and then drove to the home of fathers brother, Andrew. Had another fine visit there. He is eighty three years old and in good health. To see him and mother's brother increases my respect for the physical vigor of our family. Both are old and well preserved.
Yes, by all means, post the pictures on your website. The pictures came from my Dad (George Morgan) so I know for sure who they are. Lydia Morgan was Andrew H. Morgan, Jr's first wife. Regarding Lydia Morgan, I've attached a copy of her grave marker (Miamitown Cemetery) as well as a copy of Andrew H. Morgan Jr's (burried with second wife, Helen who he married very late in life, way beyond the child bearing age, New Haven Cemetery). Andrew and Lydia were divorced when George and Chester were young boys. The boys lived with their Grandpa, Andrew Sr. on his farm on Morgan Road when they were growing up. Unfortunately, nothing is left of the farm as it's now a gun club. Manning Cox had a farm across the street and up the road. When I-275 went in, the farm went out.
Stella Roessler i.e. Estella Jane Morgan, born 1884 (during Andrew Sr. second marriage) married John Roessler thus becoming Stella Roessler.
Thanks.

John D. Morgan had an interesting experience during the Civil War when General John Hunt Morgan and his Raiders crossed the Ohio River and passed through Indiana and Harrison, O, on their way north of Cincinnati. The general was much intrigued to find a youth there of his own name. He took young John with his raiding party and for some distance tried to persuade him that he could become one of there number. Finally, the lad convinced Gen. Morgan that when he was of age he would join up it would be with the North, not the South. The disappointed general sent John back to Harrison on an old mule. Here
trouble was awaiting John because town authorities, knowing that he had been in the company of the Raiders, jailed him for some time as a southern sympathizer.

Notes for ROBERT J. MORGAN:
Jason’s fondest memories of Robert:
Robert died when Jason was very young, but the most significant memories of his grandfather were of him driving over to Dick’s house (3817 Davis in Cheviot) to pick him up in a maroon Toronado. Jason always thought “tornado” but now recalls the letters on the side of the car quite clearly. Dick told Jason that Robert loved him so much, that on the same day, weekly, Robert would came and take him back to the homestead on Shepard Road to spend the day with him until Dick came in the evening to pick him up. Jason recalls the Toronado being so huge, he literally stood on the passenger side floor with his hands on the dash looking over it and straight ahead as they drove back to Shepard Road. While there, Robert would often sit in the white, metal perforated chairs they kept in front of the garage with Jason in his lap and at night would look up at the stars while grandpa most certainly cited various constellations (even though it made no sense to him at the time).
Robert Morgan was a teacher at Taylor High School founded in North Bend, Ohio in 1926.
Jason’s fondest memories of Florence:
Jason and his friends would ride their bikes from Cheviot to Florence’s home on Shepard Road. They would maintain the swimming pool and stay over night in the cabin in the lower woods. There was always lots of grass to cut, flower gardens to manage and chores to do. When the work was done, Florence would always come out with a huge stainless bucket of iced tea or lemonade and ham sandwiches with lots of Helmann’s mayonnaise. Jason remembers watching Florence use a tablespoon to dispense the mayonnaise. Jason and his friends went to Florences’s almost every weekend to work, play and stay in the cabin and make campfires by the creek up until her death December 31st 1992. He also remembers staying the night with Florence many times as a child.
