Harry Oberwitte

Harry Oberwitte

Harry F. Oberwitte is the son of John H. Oberwitte and Anna M. Siebert. Both of his parents were born in Germany. Harry Oberwitte was born on March 12, 1892 in Ohio. Harry first married Ida and together they had 1 child Harry Jr. Both his wife and son died of illnesses in 1918. Later, Harry Oberwitte married Pearl M. Boeres in Cincinnati, Ohio. Together they raised 2 children: Fern Elizabeth and Pearl Iris. His draft card from 1917 indicates he was medium built and stout with blue eyes and light brown hair. He lived on Erst St. in Cincinnati, Ohio.

In 1930, Harry's occupation was a stone cutter in the building industry. He later worked as a machinist at Powell Valve Co. located in Cincinnati, Ohio. Harry is buried at Baltimore Pike Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Oberwitte family belonged to the Lynnwood Baptist Church.

Mayme Degermen (nee Oberwitte)Mayme Degermen is in many photos with Pearl Oberwitte (nee Boeres).  Mayme was Harry Oberwitte's sister.  I was told that the children photographed with her were from her husband's first marriage.

Pearl Oberwitte (nee Boeres)

Pearl M. Oberwitte is the daughter of Albert F. Boeres and Elizabeth J. Gross. Her parents were both born in Ohio. She was born on June 6, 1899 in Ohio and died on September 29, 1979 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Pearl Boeres married Harry Oberwitte in Cincinnati, Ohio. Together they raised 2 children: Fern and Pearl.

The Boeres family belonged to 9th Street Baptist Church. The family resided at 3642 Shattuc Ave. in Lynwood, Ohio. She worked as a salad chef for a department store restaurant.

Albert Boeres, Jr.Albert Boeres, Jr. is the son of Albert and Elizabeth Boeres.  Albert died early at the age 14 1/2 years old from kidney trouble.

Albert F. Boeres, Sr. was the son of Heinrich Boeres and Katharina Fey. Both parents were born in Prussia. Albert was born in 1868 in Cincinnati, Ohio and died on September 1938 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Albert Boeres married Elizabeth J. Gross. Together they had 3 children: Pearl M., Evelyn P., and Albert M.

In 1890, 1891 Albert Boeres worked as a traveling salesman for Hogan & Roberg’s and lived at 239 Bremen.  In 1920, he ran a punch press. Fern Lucas said her grandparents resided downtown on Colerain Avenue.

Fern Lucas (nee Oberwitte)

Fern Elizabeth Lucas is the daughter of Harry Oberwitte and Pearl Boerse. Her father was born in Germany, and her mother was born in Ohio. Fern Oberwitte was born in 1922 in Ohio. She grew up at 4933 Bouton Street. Her father built their home.

Fern Oberwitte’s had one child in her first marriage. Their child was a girl, and the baby died during child birth. Later, she met and married Floyd Lucas. Together they raised four children in Western Hills: Donald, Donna, Roger, and Darrell. She now lives in Cincinnati, Ohio.
